Cinder & Scripts Workshop w/ Simon Geilfus from Antivj

Prerequisite: Familiar with C++ and Openframeworks

Join us for this exciting 6 hour introduction to Cinder and scripting engines. Scripts allow to prototype features faster and tweak more freely without the need to rebuild the application after each tweak, it brings a much more intuitive way to write code and open doors for non-coders to actively participate in creating an application. Through this workshop you will learn how to integrate scripting in to your own workflow, regardless of what framework you prefer to use.

About Cinder: http://libcinder.org/

Cinder is a peer-reviewed, free, open source C++ library for creative coding.

CINDER PROVIDES A POWERFUL, INTUITIVE TOOLBOX for programming graphics, audio, video, networking, image processing and computational geometry. Cinder is cross-platform, and in general the exact same code works under Mac OS X, Windows and a growing list of other platforms — most recently the iPhone and iPad.

Cinder is designed to take advantage of platforms’ native capabilities whenever it’s possible, and relies on a minimum of 3rd party libraries. This makes for much lighter, faster applications, and means Cinder apps get free performance, security and capability upgrades whenever the operating system does.

Simon Geilfus

Simon Geilfus was born in 1985 in Brussels where he currently lives. Interaction Designer and Software Engineer, most of his work today lies at the intersection of art and code. Starting a web design career at the time when Processing was released and the Flash Hackers Community got big, Simon quickly got sucked in creative coding, computational design and generative graphics. Designing tools and new approaches for graphic and motion design has become one of his major interest. He enjoys as much creating graphics and visual abstractions as creating the softwares and systems to generate them. Simon has presented his work and done lectures at festivals around the globe including Mutek in Montreal and Mexico, TodaysArt The Hague, Share Conference in Belgrade, CmODA+OneDotZero in Beijing, French Institute of Tokyo’s Digital Art Festival, Web Flash Festival at Centre Pompidou, Futuresonic Manchester, L.E.V Festival in Gijon, Itau Cultural in Sao Paulo, Scopitone Festival in Nantes… Three years lecturer at Brussels’ Superior National School of Visual Arts, La Cambre and occasional lecturer at Graphic Research School of Brussels, ERG. He regularly teaches the art of creative coding in cultural events and festivals around Europe. Simon Geilfus joined the Antivj visual label in 2009. www.simongeilfus.com www.antivj.com
