Ruy Carpenter

Ruy Carpenter is a fine-art photographer and multimedia artist who worked as a technical assistant in the art studio of Adi Da Samraj, a world-renowned artist, author, and Spiritual Teacher whose artistic work has been exhibited around the world, including a solo exhibit at the Venice Biennale in 2007, and a museum exhibit in Florence Italy in 2015. Since Adi Da’s passing in 2008, Ruy has continued as part of the foundry the artist established to work with his art, directing numerous multimedia happenings based on the artist’s specific instructions, from dance and theater performances in Italy, Ireland, and the US, to multimedia installations in gallery and museum exhibits of the artist’s work in various locations throughout Europe. He is interested in learning the tools that the Gray Area workshop provides to expand the toolbox for doing this work in the future, and also to challenge and inspire his own artistic process as well. His particular interests lie in the fusion of multiple artistic disciplines to create an immersive experience for the viewer that transcends the limits of our conventional points of view, and restores a process of trust in the perceptual domain of human life, in hope of rediscovering the universal dimensions of human experience that make us all one.
