Urban Prototyping Makeathon
<align=”center”>Do you see the public realm as a canvas? Do you have a design or technology project that could transform the way people experience the city? Bring your project to life at SF’s 2012 Urban Prototyping (UP) Festival!
UP: San Francisco is a design and technology festival focusing on replicable digital and physical urban interventions in public space. UP is offering $25,000 in stipends to support new projects. The festival’s series of events includes an Open Call for proposals, an Urban Makeathon, and a Public Street Exposition. We are taking over the tunnel at 5th and Minna for TEN HOURS of live A/V performances and musical talent.
Join us the last weekend of September, when we will host a weekend of rapidly prototyping new urban interventions as part of the Urban Makeathon portion of our Urban Prototyping Festival.
Competing teams will have two full days to conceive and execute an idea, using digital and physical tools to improve urban space. Select teams will be showcased on the street at the UP: San Francisco Street Exposition on October 20-21.
Anyone is welcome to apply, but space is limited. We are looking for a healthy mix of urban designers, creative technologists, public artists, makers, hackers, community builders, and doers of all varieties. If you’re interested in working with government, community, and private sector leaders to design the next iteration of your city, you’ve come to the right place.
Apply today and tell us a little about yourself – we’ll accept applications on a rolling basis until we reach capacity.
