Production Manager

Gray Area is a 21st-century countercultural hub catalyzing creative action for social transformation. Hosting over 100 events, workshops, and exhibitions per year, the Gray Area Theater is at the center of our mission to cultivate, sustain, and amplify a community of creative practitioners who apply antidisciplinary practice — including art, technology, science, and the humanities — towards engaging with the complex challenges facing our world.

Reporting to the Production Director, the Production Manager collaborates with staff, artists and clients to minimize expenses and maximize budgeted results while maintaining optimal operating efficiency. They take pride in professionalism, and can make clear decisions under pressure. They are responsible for the planning and execution of events, including staffing, equipment and supplies. Their job is to ensure that each event runs smoothly from start to finish, while maintaining a world-class exhibition and events facility.

Duties & Responsibilities

Event Staffing
  • Responsible for all event staffing including bartenders, security, cleaning, sound technicians, lighting designer, video technician, and door staff
  • Schedules event staff to ensure event quality in relation to the event staffing budget
  • Collects initial contractor documentation for processing and collaborate with Production Director to maintain records of all event staff
  • Venue Rentals
  • Oversees the development and profitability of Gray Area’s venue rental program
  • Receives and responds to all venue rental inquiries.
  • Schedules and executes site visits for potential event rentals
  • Obtains all information required to produce a rental event and drafts a quote to be approved by the renter
  • Maintains up to date rental contracts and documents
  • Facilities Management
  • Ensures the Grand Theater and management team follow fire safety, alcohol, and security protocol at all times
  • Manages the repair and maintenance of the Grand Theater facilities
  • Directs the development and maintenance of Grand Theater and Gray Area inventories
  • Oversees and schedules quarterly and annual facility development projects
  • Virtual Events
  • Responsible for growing Gray Area’s capacities in filming events and conducting live streams
  • Ensures everything is ready to go prior to a live stream, monitors stream throughout program

  • Qualifications

  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects
  • Superior organizational skills with ability to multi-task
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Great attitude, willingness to learn and adapt to ever-changing technologies.
  • A minimum of one to three years of experience in event production
  • Overtime, nights and weekends required
  • Experience with sound, projection and lighting systems
  • Ability to work on ladders and in high places
  • Experience setting up and running live streams to multiple platforms
  • Ability to lift objects up to 40 lbs

  • Work schedule will be dependent on events and programs in the venue
  • Full-time salary dependent on experience
