UPLOAD.gif: An Urban Outdoor Exhibition + Party
A partnership between NewHive and Gray Area. The exhibition + event series will be a celebration of the Animated GIF! Spanning 26 years, GIFs are now one of the oldest image formats on the web. An in-between medium that is lighter than a video and heavier than a photo, animated GIFs occupy a unique position as a fundamental part of the Internet, web art and pop culture.
From September to October 7th, 2013 we will be accepting submissions for Upload.gif, an urban outdoor exhibition which will transform a vacant parking lot into an Animated GIF playground. We’ll blast your original GIFS for all to see among the work of other innovators, bringing together more than just memes.
No matter where you live in the world you can take part in having your original artwork projected on larger than life walls in the center of San Francisco. Your work will also be exhibited online in a permanent #Upload collection. From raving cats to revolutionary statements, let THIS be YOUR blank canvas and let’s paint the street in GIFS.
Not a GIF artist but want to learn?! Awesome, we are going to have plenty of workshops over the weekend in advance of the party.
