Fractals are a common subject in computer graphics: they are generated through repetition of a simple formula, making them easy to code, while generating interesting images. But most fractal visualizations don't attempt to educate the viewer of this secret -- the great complexity is the result of a few iterations of very simple rules.

This is a fundamental principle of our universe - that all things in the natural world, as complex as they may seem, are the result of simple dumb components just doing the same thing over and over. By using the iOS device and gyroscope to control the basic rules (translation, rotation, and mirrors) applied in each iteration, the viewer gains an understanding of the structure of the fractal, and insight into the natural world around them.
