Join our Cultural Incubator to create together with an inspirational community

To create at Gray Area, we offer our Incubator program that helps artists and teams with mentorship and professional support to accelerate and deploy projects for public presentation.

Our cohort of creators represents an interdisciplinary mix of artists, designers, technologists, futurists, and creative entrepreneurs chosen via an annual open call for their experience, vision, and ambition. People at Gray Area are working on everything from new businesses, to ambitious art installations, to provocative experiments in science and urban design.

Creative Development

Our creative development program is designed to help you discover your voice, refine your skills, and build a community-centered creative practice. With support from a cohort of other creators and dedicated mentors, the Incubator program helps artists develop projects for public presentation through monthly peer critique, one on one mentorship sessions, and public presentations and exhibitions to showcase your work.

Our virtual Incubator program provides a supportive environment where asynchronous experiences are paired with real time connection for personalized feedback, mentorship, and support.

Our Space

Since 2015, Gray Area has operated out of the Grand Theater in the Mission District. The incubator space includes: dedicated desks, shared community event space, a kitchenette, bookable conference rooms, a media production lab, and a fabrication lab.


$150 per month Resident fee for a shared co-working space
$1000 per month for a private Studio

Program Manager

Steven Piasecki

Steve Piasecki (stevepi) is an artist who finds inspiration in the landscapes that we inhabit and in the technology that we create. The impact of what humans make and how they alter their landscapes is a major theme of his work. He has been making and showing work at Gray Area since 2019. His work has also been seen at the Lone Star, Gays Hate Techno, Light.Wav, and Dada Bar. With experiences from running small underground events to leading web development teams to helping run large global marketing campaigns, Steve has led a variety of teams and managed many different kinds of projects. As Venue Operations Manager, he brings all those experiences to Gray Area to help support the creative dreams that we bring into existence. Along the way, he has encountered almost every kind of situation, so he brings a unique perspective on how art, life, and a good party can come together to create community.
