Venue Operations Coordinator

Gray Area is a 21st-century countercultural hub catalyzing creative action for social transformation. Hosting over 100 events, workshops, and exhibitions per year, the Gray Area Theater is at the center of our mission to cultivate, sustain, and amplify a community of creative practitioners who apply antidisciplinary practice — including art, technology, science, and the humanities — towards engaging with the complex challenges facing our world.

The Venue Operations Coordinator assists in all aspects of facility operations, including the development and implementation of standard operating policy procedures for the Venue. They should be highly organized with excellent communications skills, and able to make clear decisions under pressure. The Venue Operations Coordinator will report to Gray Area’s Production Manager to support our Events and Facilities operations. In addition, they will work closely with the Communications Director to provide customer support and create an inclusive and welcoming guest experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

Venue Operations
  • Supervising all front of house staff including, ticketing, security, bar, and maintenance staff
  • Hire, train, supervise, and participate in activities of the events team alongside the Production Manager including training and direction
  • Develops facility operations manuals, policies, and procedures; implements and provides training and associated support resources for employees
  • Acts as Venue Supervisor on duty for general business hours, gallery hours and special events as assigned
  • Design and implement processes for accessibility and wayfinding
  • Customer Service & Guest Experience
  • Monitor support email inboxes and help resolve issues and complaints
  • Support students and teachers with technical difficulties in education programs
  • Handle returns, exchanges and other box office support requests
  • Train ticketing and other box office employees in customer service if needed
  • Facility Management
  • Manages inventories, shipments and stock levels
  • Receives and evaluates deliveries
  • Maintain facilities to ensure they are clean, organized, and up to date
  • Ensures security and emergency preparedness procedures are implemented properly
  • Oversees and supervises the quality of work from contractors and other employees to ensure that all tasks are performed correctly, efficiently, and effectively
  • Recommends maintenance, mechanical, electrical, and facility design modifications
  • Communicates workplace safety precautions to employees
  • Qualifications

  • Superior organizational skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Gallery or related art professional experience is a plus but not required
  • Experience with video and sound is a plus but not required
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a great attention to detail
  • Mature, self-confident and personable with a positive attitude
  • Ability to take initiative while working individually and collaboratively
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Ability to work on ladders and in high places
  • General experience with tools and equipment. Capable of making minor repairs to a facility

  • Work schedule will be dependent on events and programs in the venue
  • Full-time salary dependent on experience
  • $400 a month toward company offered health plans
