Norman Westberg

Norman Westberg is best known through his role as guitarist in the seminal experimental rock band, Swans. His solo work is intricately crafted just like his work for the band, but it tends towards the shapeless—guitars are fed through prisms of delay and echo until they splay across the frame, creating tapestries of sound that glisten, bulge and pale over time. Present through almost the entirety of the band’s existence, Westberg was brought on for Swans’ debut album Filth (1983) and appeared on every album through 1991’s White Light from the Mouth of Infinity. Westberg became a full-time Swans member once again when Michael Gira reactivated the group in 2010.
