A monthly free-to-all electronic music workshop & collaborative jam session held in the Gray Area classroom.

Accessibility Update

Please note that this upcoming Synth Sesh will take place in the Gray Area classroom upstairs. While we regret that the upstairs location is not ADA accessible, we wanted to inform all attendees in advance of the event. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and encourage anyone who may be impacted to reach out to us directly so that we can help accommodate their needs as best we can. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you!

This Month's Theme is: Buchla!

We'll be joined by Peter Nyboer and Tyler Russel from legendary Bay Area synth institution Buchla USA to talk about all things Buchla and give attendees a rare chance to get hands on with some Buchla instruments IRL.

Buchla is a legendary musical instrument company. Don Buchla first started designing electronic music instruments in the late 60's in San Francisco, creating modular systems that promised a new way of making sound and music. Embracing the local counter-culture, Buchla's designs always pushed the envelope to encourage experimentation and exploration of electronic forms. The influence of his designs have been long-standing not as a result of scale, but by their continued ability to surprise. Buchla as a company has recently re-condensed in the East Bay, and is energized by recent releases of some classic designs and an eye for a future of new Buchla instruments.

While Buchla instruments will be provided, participants may still bring their own electronic instruments or use one from the Creative Resource Library (limited availability). Participants can also preview the instruments available from the Library and sign up to borrow one after the session. We have full modular systems, desktop synths and drum machines, and a selection of Macbooks, iPads, midi controllers, and audio interfaces.

The workshop begins promptly at 6pm, followed by group jam time beginning at 7pm. There will be time at the end of the workshop for general questions and advice about synthesis. Please arrive in time to set up your instrument(s) before the jam begins.
