Overview

Start your podcast now. Share your ideas, interviews, stories or any audio content with the world. It's easy to start creating your own podcast telling your stories through your voice, with minimal gear and experience.

In this online workshop, you will learn how to select gear for your podcast, and best practices on how to record, edit and publish audio content. Learn how to get your broadcast out to the world by learning how to submit your podcast to Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, and sharing your RSS feed with other listeners.

Workshop Logistics

Dates: Monday & Wednesday, May 25 & 27, 2020
Time: 5-8pm PST

Cost: $60

Experience Level: Beginner.

Requirements:
• Computer with audio capabilities
• Microphone (A laptop/earbud microphone is fine to get started.)
• DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software. If this is your first time, we recommend starting with the free software Audacity or Garageband

Workshop Outline

We'll cover a range of topics including:
• Building your podcast’s voice, image and brand
• Choosing recording software and hardware within your budget
• Recording your podcast with one or multiple microphones
• Editing your podcast and cleaning up the audio for broadcast
• Uploading your podcast where it can be heard
• Submitting your podcast to Apple Podcasts and Stitcher
• Using your podcast’s RSS feed
• Expanding into video podcasting

Online Workshop

This online workshop will be held over two 3 hour classes via Zoom. We will have an online community chat to share your questions during and beyond the workshop. The workshop will be recorded, archived and shared with participants for a limited time. In addition, the teacher will offer office hours during a scheduled time throughout the week. Instructor

Marc Kate

Originally trained as a filmmaker and visual artist, San Francisco based producer and composer Marc Kate applies cinematic and conceptual approaches to music and audio production. As a response to the tech culture assault on San Francisco (and the world), Kate takes up the tools of the trade — computers and synthesis — and slyly counter-attacks, imbuing humanity precisely where humanity is being evacuated. He creates a counterpoint to tech’s speed and greed — slow, immersive, materialist, drifting. But Kate also draws from his history in San Francisco’s synth-punk and techno scenes, emerging to create stripped-down, static experiments in synthesis. He leads the electronic post-punk band Never Knows and has released solo material on over two dozen labels including Jacktone, Loöq, Air Texture and Dragon’s Eye Recordings and his own imprints Untitled & After and Failing Forms. In 2018, he formed the Synth Doom project My Heart, an Inverted Flame with drummer Andee Connors.
