Tana’s foundation in media arts theory and practice was constructed while earning a BA degree in Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts (ICAM) at the University of California at San Diego. During this time she was awarded two consecutive fellowships at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, investigating Sonification and Visualization, and Networked Audio-Visual Performance. The culmination of this work earned her the ICAM Artistic Achievement Award in 2004. She completed her formal education at Mills College, receiving a MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media.

From 2004 until May of 2010 she worked alongside Recombinant Media Labs’ (RML) founder and Director Naut Humon; performing various roles including research and development intern, performance systems specialist, production manager, audio-visual engineer, event coordinator, international relations delegate, and most recently as Associate Director. While at RML Tana produced events for artist such as Ryoji Ikeda, Biosphere, Alva Noto and Blixa Bargeld (ANBB), Pan Sonic, Richard Devine, Florian Hecker, Yasunao Tone, Semiconductor, Skoltz_Kolgen, Morton Subotnick, Curtis Roads, and Thomas Köner. From May 2009 until July 2010 Tana also served as the Director of Operations at Gray Area Foundation Foundation for the Arts (GAFFTA). During this time she helped to curate, develop, and produce every aspect of Gray Area’s programming including exhibitions, workshops, performances, symposia, and residencies.
