Ars Citizen
Ars Citizen is an independent art-commissioning and curatorial platform committed to advancing the production and diffusion of contemporary art and ideas.
Founded in San Francisco, a center of global influence today, Ars Citizen brings the excellence of international artists to Bay Area’s leaders of cultural, educational, technological and social innovation. Through collaborative partnerships, it aims to commission, produce and promote insightful works while generating relevantly conceived programs with educational vocation.
Ars Citizen values long-term commitment, networking synergy and international dialogue, and seeks to resonate with the contemporary world, its complexity and pressing challenges.
In summer 2017, Ars Citizen launched its inaugural project, Sophie Calle Missing, the largest in-depth survey to date in America of the renowned conceptual French artist.
Conceived as a multi-venue exhibition with collateral programming, the project was organized in partnership with major art and culture institutions across the San Francisco Bay Area. The site-related exhibition presented by Fort Mason Center for Arts Culture received more than 15,000 international and local visitors, setting a record attendance for the institution.
Ars Citizen is thrilled to work once again with various partners throughout the city of San Francisco to introduce Ryoji Ikeda with the first major project in Northern California of the internationally acclaimed Paris-based composer and artist.
The live audiovisual concert “supercodex [live set]” at Gray Area, Jan. 9, is part of a larger triptych combining the different strands of Ikeda’s practice with “A”, a site-specific exhibition at Minnesota Street Project (temporary Ars Citizen space and office, 2nd floor), Jan. 9-21, and an artist book release with onestar press and Untitled Art Fair, Jan. 10-14
