Imran Sekalala

I am a Data Scientist, Multimedia Artist, and Environmental Designer. I was born and raised in Kampala, Uganda, having studied there as well as in Kenya, Eswatini, China and the US.

I graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor’s in Data Science and a concentration in Data Arts & Humanities, as well as Environmental Design & Urbanism in Developing Countries. I was a Deep Learning & HCI researcher at the Berkeley Institute of Design, and an Engineering Design scholar at the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation. I then interned at the Gray Area Foundation for Arts and Technology. I am currently an R&D Engineer at Berkeley’s Center for New Music and Audio Technologies where I focus on gestural and environmental input for audio synthesis.
