Kevin Drumm

Kevin Drumm is an exceptional experimental musician based in Chicago, Illinois, . Emerging from the city’s versatile alternative music scene in the 1990s he became one the world’s pre-eminent prepared guitar players, applying objects including magnets, binder clips, chains, a violin bow and even toenail clippers to distort and magnify the instrument’s sound with a unique customized character.

In the years active from 1991. Drumm’s work expanded to encompass electroacoustic compositions and live electronic music made with laptop computers and analog modular synthesizers

Drumm’s work draws upon musique concrete, wayward oscillator waveforms, improvisation, heavy metal, and noise music, and has proved difficult to categorize. His solo and collaborative work ranges from challenging improvisations, overwhelming post ambient textures, and torrential walls of sound.

His chameleon-like presence has been documented on hundreds of recording projects, each revealing new facets of his wide-ranging and unique talents that seamlessly melds the worlds of acoustic and massive electrified oscillator-like emissions that occasionally teeter on the edge of a voidal stillness, yet always remaining impeccably musical.

Kevin Drumm has recorded and performed with Phill Niblock, Tony Conrad, Jim O’Rourke, MIMEO, Mats Gustafsson, John Butcher, Thomas Ankersmit, Taku Sugimoto, Martin Tètreault, Axel Dörner and endless others.

Drumm received two Honorable Mentions from Prix Arts Electronica (2000, 2002) in Austria.
