The Biofeedback Art-Research-Practice Network, led by Anastasia Chernysheva and supported by Gray Area, is an international community of artists, scientists, and researchers exploring the intersection of biological data and artistic expression. The network’s goal is to integrate cutting-edge biofeedback technology with artistic practices in order to push the boundaries of conventional art-making and to challenge traditional notions of the relationship between mind and body. Join the network to receive monthly newsletters with updates on advancements in biofeedback art and research, collaborate with artists, researchers, and scholars, and meet with other biofeedback enthusiasts in monthly virtual meetings. Please reach out to [email protected] for more information or to express your interest in joining the Biofeedback Art-Research-Practice Network.

Anastasia Chernysheva
Anastasia Chernysheva (MA, University of Illinois) is a scholar and curator exploring the topics of experimental music and biofeedback art. Having a background in the history and philosophy of science, Anastasia attempts to reconcile the principles of the scientific method with the praxis of artistic expression. As a Research Fellow of the Gray Area, she’s been working on the Biofeedback Art-Research-Practice Network, an inaugural event series introducing a newly established network of artists, researchers, and scholars exploring the intersection of biological data and artistic expression with particular emphasis on the sonic domain. As an Associate Researcher at UCLA Berry Gordy Music Industry Center, she continues researching the history of biofeedback therapy and artistic applications of the technique – particularly prominent in the Bay Area from 1970 to 1990.
