Jeanette Stobie
Jeanette Stobie is a visionary artist living in Applegate, Oregon. Stobie began making mandala paintings in the early 1970s, one of which can be seen on the cover of Michael Stearns’s cassette, Morning Jewel (1980). Music from Stearns’s classic album Planetary Unfolding (1981) can be heard on Stobie’s experimental video, Lightstream (1983), which we will screen on a new, never-before-seen transfer from the 1” original. Stobie was a founding member of the Arica spiritual group in the 1970s and was close friends with Emilie Conrad, founder of Continuum movement meditation. Lightstream, with its Stearns soundtrack and visual oscillation between microcosm and macrocosm, is a perfect audiovisual complement to our discussion of Continuum.
