John Carroll Kirby
Producer/Composer/Keyboardist John Carroll Kirby was born in Los Angeles and mentored early on by jazz bassist/composer/arranger John Clayton, himself a protege of Ray Brown and Quincy Jones. He’s lived in Paris to collaborate with provocateur Sébastien Tellier, as keyboardist/co-producer and as a member of their “Mind Gamers” project with Dan Sticker. He contributed on Solange’s Grammy winning A Seat at the Table, for which his keyboard arrangements laid a path for future of the soul. Solange tapped him once again for her most recent album, When I Get Home, across which his production style is even more pervasive. His instrumental solo albums Travel (2017), a thrilling and deep 3.0 take on exotica, and the aptly-titled Meditations in Music (2018) prove Kirby’s vision to be expansive, leaving very little to wonder why artists like Connan Mockasin, Yellow Days, Kali Uchis and Mark Ronson have sought his acumen for the cosmic.
