Swans [On Film]
Swans are the experimental experiential rock band featured In the California premiere of the Marco Porsia film “Where Does A Body End?” formed in 1982. Initially part of the no wave scene, Swans have contributed to the development of noise rock, post-punk, industrial, post-rock and more. The band has centered around singer/guitarist/bassist Michael Gira, the only constant member through all of the band’s many line-up changes. Known for their sheer musical brutality, their sound has been defined by extreme volume, slower than molasses tempos, detuned guitars, distorted electronics, and overamped drums and percussion. Within the noise there remain traces of approaching melody in Gira’s compositions and vocalizing, with lyrics often about violence, power, rage, and the margins of human depravity.
