Willa Köerner is an artist, writer, curator and freelance creative strategist working to bring art and technology together in meaningful ways. In her artwork, she uses a diverse range of traditional and software-enabled art making techniques to explore the vast, uncharted territories of the digital realm. In her notable work for SFMOMA as their Assistant Manager, Digital Engagement – a position she held for over three years, and recently moved on from – Willa divided her time between thinking conceptually about the institution’s online persona and digital experience, and singlehandedly developing the museum’s award-winning social media program. As an independent arts worker, she is excited to take on projects that push the boundaries of digital curation and networked creativity.
In 2014, Willa spoke at SXSW on social media’s effect on curatorial practice. Willa has written for Art21, Complex Magazine, SFMOMA’s Open Space, and the Fine Arts of San Francisco’s online publication, to name a few. Her work has been noted in TIME, Mashable, The Creators Project, BLOUIN ArtInfo, Complex Magazine, Pitchfork, and beyond. In the past she has worked as an illustrator, user experience designer, and copywriter for various art projects and publications.
