Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of The First Human Be-In

Produced by Unity Foundation in association with the 17th Digital Be-In. Featuring The 50th Anniversary All-Star Band performing a historic Jam for Peace.

Featuring visionary speakers, live music and DJs, poetry readings, virtual reality demonstrations and a mixed reality showcase, video messages of peace, exhibits, performances, and historic films.

Speakers include Dennis McNally, Ann Cohen, Martine Bowen Algier, Jerry Cimino, Avon Mattison, Mikey Seigel, Adil Kassam, Michael Gosney, and Bill McCarthy. Featuring Wavy Gravy as MC and Be-In clown.

Live music provided by the 1960s All-Star Band in a once in a lifetime Jam for Peace, featuring members of Big Brother & The Holding Company, Country Joe & The Fish, The Youngbloods, Sons of Champlin, and more. There will also be a performance from House of Hamsa, a fusion band of world beat and electronica. Andreilien and DJ Feral will provide next generation dance music.

The Virtual Reality demonstrations will include the United Nations production “Clouds Over Sidra”, letting you a visit to a Syrian refugee camp, and the Stanford Ocean Acidification Experience, which takes you on a tour through oceanic space and time.

The Human Be-In 50th Anniversary will showcase the lastest technological developments that can help foster community and improve our lives. New tools, such as consciousness hacking and mixed reality, will be explored.

Digital Be-in

The Digital Be-In has been produced in San Francisco since 1989 by Michael Gosney working with various collaborators including Robert Gelman, Faustin Bray, Queenie Taylor, Allen Cohen, Chet Helms, Stefan G, Jair and many other people and groups. Perhaps best described as the original “socially conscious cyberculture event,“ the Digital Be-In began in spirit as a nod to the San Francisco counter culture and its influence on the technology revolution. Considered a bellwether of innovation in new media and internet technology, the event features luminaries and experts, a showcase of exemplary creative applications using new technology platforms, exhibits and installations, with an evening celebration featuring live music, projections, DJs and dancing.

Barry "the Fish" Melton

Barry is the former lead guitarist/singer with Country Joe & The Fish (He led the "No Rain" cheer at the original Woodstock Festival). Barry is a founding member of the Dinosaurs.

Banana

Banana is the former keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist with The Youngboods. Banana has also been a member of the band Zero and the Michael Barclay Band.

Roy Blumenfeld

Roy Blumenfeld is best known for his drumming with The Blues project. Roy has recorded and performed with Sea Train and Nick Gravenites' Animal Mind band.

Peter Albin

Peter is an original member of Big Brother & The Holding Company. His bass guitar and vocals backed up Janis Joplin. The guitar he used from 1965 to 1993 is enshrined in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

David Aguilar

David played guitar for 11 years with Norton Buffalo & Friends. He has recently performed with Big Brother & The Holding Company and Norman Greenbaum.

Annie Sampson

Following her role in the hit musical HAIR, Annie performed with Stoneground along side of Sal Valentino, who was featured in The Beau Brummels.

Nick Gravenites

Blues Hall of Fame Inductee, Nick moved to the Bay Area in the 1960s, produced Quicksilver Messenger Service and performed and recorded with Big Brother & Holding Company and The Electric Flag.

Lisa Kindred

Lisa fronted the Haight Ashbury Band Ascension and has performed with everyone from Bob Dylan to Charlie Musselwhite.

Terry Haggerty

Haggerty is the Father of Fusion Guitar. Terry performed with and recorded 7 albums with The Sons of Champlin. Jerry Garcia called him "A unique and original player, who is highly inventive, incorporating the tone of rock and the harmonies of Jazz".

Mario Cipollina

Having watched his brother John perform with Quicksilver Messenger Service at the First Human Be-In, Mario played bass guitar with Soundhole and recorded 19 top 10 singles and a number 1 album with Huey Lewis & The News.
