About the Event

We invite you to join us on August 2, 2025, to celebrate the life of our dear friend Dax Pierson. On what would have been Dax's fifty-fifth birthday, we will gather in the warm circle of music and light, surrounded by friends and chosen family, to honor our beautiful brother. Hosted by the one and only doseone, the event will feature special performances by M.Sayyid of Antipop Consortium, Jel of Anticon, Golden Champagne Flavored Sweatshirt of Ratskin, and Mars Kumari of the Handsmade collective. This is a time for joy, remembrance, and connection as we come together to celebrate Dax's incredible spirit.

About Dax Pierson

Dax Pierson

Dax Pierson was an experimental digital music producer known for pushing boundaries and blending genres in bold, innovative ways. They embraced Apple iOS devices as part of their creative process, finding in them a more accessible and cost-effective workflow. After becoming quadriplegic due to a tour accident in 2005, Dax adapted their artistic practice to work with limited fine motor skills, using technology to craft immersive sonic landscapes that invited listeners to dance, reflect, and connect. Dax was deeply respected for their collaborative spirit and passion for live performance—whether as a performer or an engaged listener. Their music was a journey of self-expression and transformation, rooted in a rich tapestry of influences that spanned street and academic electronic music. They often incorporated field recordings from their daily life, including medical appointments and the sounds of durable medical equipment, turning these into powerful symbols of resilience and empowerment. As a Black, queer, and disabled artist, Dax approached their work through a multi-hyphenate cultural lens, infusing their compositions—primarily instrumental—with the essence of their lived experience. Their 2021 solo album, Nerve Bumps (a queer divine dissatisfaction), released in collaboration with Dark Entries and Ratskin, stood as a testament to their vision and voice. In the final years of their life, Dax explored new performative possibilities with Logic Pro for iPad, blending live improvisation with generative composition and remixing tracks from earlier works. Their goal was always to deepen the connection between artist and audience, creating performances that were as immersive as they were intimate. Though their career as a keyboardist and sample artist was altered by the 2005 accident, Dax’s creative journey never ceased. They continued to evolve, inspire, and challenge conventions—leaving behind a legacy of innovation, accessibility, and profound artistic integrity.

Artists

Doseone

For 25 years, and 50 full length records, Adam "Doseone" Drucker has been spearheading the unfound sound, lassoing it, and wrestling it to the ground. Through hard work and hand craft, the rapper/producer/poet has built up a body of work of both striking quality and impressive quantity, rising through the ranks of '90s battle rap to become a celebrated solo artist and collaborator. Whether crushing genre through flagship projects like 13&god, Themselves, cLOUDDEAD, A7PHA and Subtle, or composing music for indie video games like Enter the Gungeon, Gang Beasts and Sludge Life, the once Anticon cofounder remains endlessly inspired and utterly fearless.

M.Sayyid

M.Sayyid (born Maurice Mboya Greene July 10 1970) is a lyricist, producer, visual artist and a founding member of The New York based Alternative hip hop group Antipop Consortium. In 2018 the French music television series Tracks ARTE covered the artist in a mini-documentary highlighting his work. Later that year he was invited by Sónar to perform at Sónar by Day. He has appeared in a “how-to” for Billboard (magazine) in 2009 where he was applauded for his use of the MPC 2000XL and plays the role of professor in a 2 part series called Fire in the MP. His visual work has been published in Arts Magazine in 2012 where he was commissioned to create a piece for the "carte blanche" section of the magazine.

Golden Champagne Flavored Sweatshirt

Self taught multi disciplinary artist- electronic music producer/watercolor/pen/cross-processed photo manipulation/digital art. Musical expression is an incredibly cathartic experience. Expectant is my debut release- presented as an auditory voyage through my anxiety, confusion and depression. Recording music has completely changed my approach to artistry and creativity.Currently, in my art journey, I am pushing against the idea that my art must reflect the political aspects of my existence. I am weary of Black women having to be the pawns of men- uplifting an entire community with no compensation. Being drained by weak, “well-meaning” whites who are fueled and energized by the exploitation of Black suffering with no real efforts for change. Shaping my existential rage and anxiety into a journey of self actualization through color and sound has been a profound experience.

Mars Kumari

When Jacques Derrida defined the lingering Marxism of late-Capitalist society as hauntological, mashing together the words haunting and ontology, he couldn’t have imagined what the era might sound like. Mars Kumari captures the grief and grit of loss we all feel now, haunted as we are by what was here and is now missing." -Roy Christopher
