Gray Area presents Welcome to Supertino: a solo exhibition of an interactive city by Erik Brown. Developed this summer in the Cultural Incubator program, this immersive, interactive installation unfolds across three channels in the Gray Area gallery.
Welcome to Supertino is a living experiment in civic imagination—a playful, interactive city where every visitor becomes a participant. Explore neighborhoods, meet AI-powered citizens, wrestle with real-world tradeoffs, and contribute ideas that help shape Supertino's evolving future. Part art installation, part civic laboratory, and part story world, Supertino invites us to practice one of our most important skills: imagining—and building—better futures together.
Throughout the installation, subtle invitations draw visitors to continue exploring Supertino online not as a companion website, but as an extension of the city itself, where they can meet AI-powered residents, wander its neighborhoods, take part in longer civic conversations, and learn how its systems interact, all while leaving behind ideas that continually expand Brown's Supertino universe.

Erik Brown
Resident Futurist and Founder of The DreamLab Collective, Erik B designs at the intersection of technology, learning, and societal systems. After 10+ years leading digital education and media teams at MIT and Stanford, he now builds experiences and environments that expand human agency, reconfigure how systems distribute power, and prepare people to operate within and redesign an increasingly complex world. He is currently developing Supertino, a prototype city exploring new civic operating systems for resilient, human-centered futures.
