GRAY/V presents a night of audiovisual collaborations by Bay Area multimedia artists, spotlighting a performance by live experimental electronic musician Salami Rose Joe Louis (Brainfeeder) and multimedia artist Paula Morales (Fern & Whale). Paula Morales will be displaying her unique video synthesis looping on multiple projectors, with synchronized rhythmical improvisation to Salami Rose Joe Louis' cerebral, dreamy fusions.

The night kicks off with a performance between Oakland's Secret Sidewalk (Primal Dap Sound) accompanied by modular analog visuals from Dr. Rek. Secret Sidewalk's music features unorthodox instrumentation: saxophone, turntables, synthesizers and drums, all modulated live with effects to create a sound that is both lush and gritty. Dr. Rek will be using audio-reactive modular video gear, analog video feedback, and video mixing and effects to create eye-melting visuals on the spot.

This evening was curated by Diego Mungia.
GRAY/V is a showcase of Bay Area audiovisual artists hosted by Gray Area.
All ticket sale profit goes directly to the artists.

Salami Rose Joe Louis

Salami Rose Joe Louis is a multi-instrumentalist producer from California and a recent signee to Flying Lotus’s independent label Brainfeeder. Drawing influences from jazz, soul, and hip-hop, she creates a blend of experimental dreamy sounds with jazz influenced vocals and piano. She recently released her debut album on Brainfeeder “Zdenka 2080”, a conceptual sci-fi album that has been described as a “stunning interdimensional travel themed new album” by Gigwise. Drawing from her studies in planetary sciences, she creates a celestial experience filled with space inspired sounds and galaxy chords.

Secret Sidewalk

Founded in 2010, Secret Sidewalk is comprised of Bay Area natives from a variety of musical backgrounds, yielding a distinctive sound that echoes Bay Area hip-hop, jazz, and psychedelic undertones. The group features unorthodox instrumentation: saxophone, turntables, synthesizers, and drums, all modulated live with effects to create a sound that is both lush and gritty. Secret Sidewalk has performed at the inaugural MUTEK Festival in San Francisco, Hiero Day (Oakland), Low End Theory (Los Angeles and San Francisco), South by Southwest, and regular appearances at “Smart Bomb,” a groundbreaking monthly event in Oakland, founded by the band to showcase off-center beat music. In 2019 the band released Primal Dap, their first full length album and the first release on the band's label Primal Dap Sound. The label will feature projects curated by the members of Secret Sidewalk, spanning their diverse interests (jazz, hip-hop, electronic, experimental).
