About the Event

Are you interested in what the future of mindfulness and design will look like?

Join us for an exclusive introduction to HEMPLA, the world’s first meditation furniture crafted from 3D-printed organic hemp, sugar and hand-woven hemp, paired with a guided soundscape session led by London-based sound designers The Sound Nutritionist.

Expand your horizons with a thought-provoking discussion hosted by London-based designer Sofia Hagen and LA/NY based Studio Marmi, exploring how cutting-edge digital technology intersects with traditional craftsmanship in the evolving world of wellness design.

Apart from HEMPLA, the event will feature the HEMPLAWAVE — a bespoke soundscape based on the geometries of the Hempla design and designed to promote relaxation and focus, creating an immersive sonic atmosphere to elevate the experience.

Speakers

Sofia Hagen

London-based architect and designer Sofia Hagen leads an award-winning creative practice working at the intersection of art, design and tech to create 3D-printed sculptural products and installations. The practice has built a reputation for blending high-end design with cutting-edge technology and advanced biomaterial research. Merging recycled materials with traditional craftsmanship and innovative technology, Sofia Hagen produces elements, feature installations, and placemaking schemes that push the boundaries of engineering whilst bearing the incentive of a continuous, sustainable afterlife.

Prior to launching her own studio, Sofia Hagen was co-founder of HagenHinderdael, a practice that received critical attention for its use of cutting-edge technology and advanced material research to create high-end design products. As creative director at HH, she led the creative conception and design development of the practice’s 3D-printed products and installations, working closely with digital fabrication specialists and material scientists globally. A highly versatile practitioner with keen business acumen, she worked from product design to interior and large-scale architectural developments at some of the leading names in the industry, including Zaha Hadid Architects, Heatherwick Studios, Design Haus Liberty, Acme Space, David Collins Studio, Bompas and Parr, and Make. Polish-Austrian, Sofia trained in architectural design under the aegis of Zaha Hadid at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, where she graduated with a Masters in Architecture in 2008, followed by a traineeship as interior designer at Odile Decq Architects, Paris.

Sirin Aysan, co-founder of Studio Marmi

Studio Marmi is a design studio based in Istanbul, NY and Los Angeles that produces handcrafted contemporary rugs and tapestries for design projects of all scales.
The brand blends ancestral craftsmanship with modern aesthetics to carry forward the cultural legacy of Anatolia in a distinctly contemporary form. Sustainability, innovation, and cultural heritage are at the heart of Studio Marmi. Their unique products are meticulously made by skilled artisans and weavers using traditional, time-honoured techniques.

Founded by Asli Smith & Sirin Aysan, Studio Marmi was born out of the founders’ desire to create unique collections that expressed rug design as an art form.

Asli Smith is an artist and multidisciplinary designer based in Istanbul & New York. Her illustrations have appeared in design publications (American Illustration, Communication Arts and Print), window displays, and textiles. Kozmos Rug Collection, which she designed for Atlas Harran, was selected as winner of Floor Coverings Category of the Edida Awards (2021) by Elle Decoration. Her woven paintings were on view at the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial as part of the New Civic Rituals Section in 2020. She had her first solo exhibition Solar at Kale Tasarım ve Sanat Merkezi in Istanbul in 2021.

Sirin Aysan is a documentary filmmaker and creative executive based in Los Angeles. Her award-winning work spans visually striking, character-driven documentaries filmed across the globe, covering topics from ancient history to contemporary politics. At the heart of her storytelling, however, lies a deep commitment to gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. As the co-founder of Studio Marmi, she not only produces beautiful rug collections but also strives to create sustainable livelihoods for local economies—particularly for women who have inherited the craft through generations. For her, rug making is a natural extension of both her creative vision and extension of her storytelling journey.
