Patch Pulse: Lisa Lerkenfeldt/Sarah Byrne & Lily Ackerman/otodojo

On May 21, join us for our monthly Patch Pulse featuring special live audiovisual performances.

Multidisciplinary artists Lisa Lerkenfeldt and Sarah Byrne blend video, voice, and performance in their special live film.

Lisa Lerkenfeldt's latest album A Garden Dissolves Into Black Silk, has been described as 60 minutes of magnetic tape erosion, crumbling textures and distant melodies of a dissolving world and an exercise in inter-species listening, analogue mutations and reciprocal relations as night fades to black. This album was written and recorded on unceded Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung land.

Lily Ackerman as been producing for nearly a decade, her meticulously crafted mixes and productions have moved the crowds from the Gray Area / Grand Theater to Tresor. With Berlin based otodojo shaping visuals, this is surely a performance not to be missed.

Artists

Lisa Lerkenfeldt

Lisa Lerkenfeldt is an Australian multi-disciplinary artist and producer. Her practice takes two paths: negotiating an intimacy with technology; and renewing human connection with the natural environment. Drawing from an extensive personal archive of field recordings, electronics and object-based actions, she has published and performed within an international ecology of experimental music including alliances with Shelter Press, Vienna Press, Daisart and Room 40. Three new releases surfaced in 2020; ‘A Liquor Of Daisies’ (Shelter Press), an endless tape from isolation, ‘Collagen’ (Shelter Press), her debut LP and scorebook, and ‘A Garden Dissolves Into Black Silk’ (Archaic Vaults), a durational experiment in magnetic tape erosion and interspecies listening. Each reveal a dedication to analogue manipulations, field work, the cinematic and long form minimal composition.

Lily Ackerman

American born Lily Ackerman is a producer and DJ based in Berlin. Raised in a quiet farming town in Illinois, Lily’s first outings with electronic music began after relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area, co-founding the Diacritic Collective - a group of music devotees passionate about vinyl culture - and later landing a residency at the long-running As You Like It parties. Fast forward ten years later and Lily now resides in Berlin where she has already unleashed her dexterous selection of techno, electro and leftfield electronics at institutions like Tresor, Pornceptual and Bewegungsfreiheit. Her production career spans over a decade, with her first wave of material surfacing on Mioli Music in 2013 (‘Africa’), to releases on Friends With Benefits, Perfect Location and Vinyl Dreams Records, tracking a gradual and effortless stylistic shift towards the more angular and experimental side of the electronic cosmos. In late 2020 the brooding electro cut ‘Fomite’ was featured on landmark Berlin streaming platform HÖR’s first ever compilation, saluting Lily’s stand-out appearances at the infamous white tiled Kreuzberg studios. Shortly thereafter, she released a deep-diving ‘Wormhole Mix’ of Christina Chatfield’s ‘Energies’ on As You Like It Recordings, maintaining her strong ties to the San Francisco Bay Area scene. Channeling her US roots and fusing years of experience with newfound inspirations in Berlin, Lily Ackerman looks toward the next decade with hope, passion and an innate sense for the eternal groove of the dance-floor.
