Matatu in Mityana is part of the series Creative Resolution by software engineer and artist Michael Meisel. Michael Meisel exploits compression artifact by processing digital photographs at the lowest possible quality, but at a much higher resolution, allowing the JPEG compression algorithm to provide its own artistic interpretations of the original images.

Michael is a software engineer and engineering leader who is passionate about making complex technologies easier to understand. He has spent his career helping startups build their core technology from the ground up. He has built everything from interactive computer network visualizations to zero-maintenance, solar-powered PCs for rural areas in the developing world.
As the son of an artist and an engineer, Michael has always been interested in the interplay between technology and art. His hobbies over the years have included filmmaking, carpentry, and electronics.
Michael holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA (with a focus in network protocols) and a B.A. in Computer Science from UC Berkeley.
