Gray Area has expanded its membership benefits by joining the North American Reciprocal Museums (NARM) Association. Gray Area members at the Co-Creator level and above now enjoy access to more than 1,380 affiliated museums and galleries, historical museums, botanical gardens, children’s museums, and more across Bermuda, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the United States.

The San Francisco-based art gallery, incubator, and performance space now also welcomes members of NARM affiliated institutions with reciprocal access. That includes 20 other NARM institutions located in San Francisco and the East Bay, and over 60 in the greater Bay Area. Among them are the Asian Art Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Oakland Museum of California, and the Chabot Space & Science Center.

“NARM membership increases access to Gray Area’s unique exhibits, workshops, and performances, which offer a unique blend of art, technology, science and the humanities,” said Executive and Artistic Director, Barry Threw. “That advances our mission to cultivate, sustain, and amplify the diverse global creative community who make Gray Area home.”

As its name implies, Gray Area is a cultural hub that defies simple categorization. It offers a blend of exhibition, education and performance; cultivates and showcases work drawing upon myriad disciplines and media; attracts and supports a diverse community of creators and patrons, often from historically underrepresented communities. Joining the network is a natural extension of the organization’s integrated approach to creative endeavor.

“Our members are drawn to Gray Area’s holistic, community-driven, and unbound philosophy. We value collaboration, curiosity, exploration—and so do our patrons. Working with NARM gives our members access to complementary cultural institutions both locally and across North America,” said Threw.
