Move It SF
Project Description
In an effort to improve population health in San Francisco through increased physical activity, Move it SF is creating a searchable database of San Francisco’s Physical Activity resources and opportunities. It provides a more focused search than what Yelp.com provides and a broader one than SF Parks and Recreation or the Transit and Trails websites do. Move it SF includes information about public, private and non profit physical activity resources in the city and it shows location, hours, cost, and user ratings. The website will also enable users to add places to be active in SF that are not already in the Move It SF database.
To promote use of public physical activity resources in SF, Move it SF, the entity, also created a Prescription for Health form for clinicians to give to patients indicating the type of physical activity the clinician recommends (i.e. walking, swimming, group exercise), the recommended dose (minutes/day and days/week) and the prime location for the patient to engage in the activity as determined by their search of the database on the patient’s behalf. Along with the filled out prescription form, the clinician will also give a copy of a Move It SF map of the patient’s neighborhood showing all of the physical activity resources that can be found there. This will supports patients without computer access or literacy to find out where to go to be active.
