Gray Area is pleased to present Gardens of FELT Zine Delights, an exhibition of work from the FELT Zine internet art and digital culture collective, and the debut exhibition in our new Gallery space.

Join us on August 25th for an opening celebration from 6-9 PM PDT. Gray Area Gallery will be open for regular gallery hours beginning Tuesday, August 30th.

The Gallery is a new exhibition space at Gray Area’s physical location in the historic Grand Theater on Mission Street. Throughout the course of Gray Area’s history, our interdisciplinary, multi-purpose space has continued to showcase dynamic creative outputs from a broad spectrum of creators & thinkers. For the first time, within the wider umbrella of our experimental event and educational programming, we have created a dedicated and separate space for longer-term exhibitive media projects.

Beginning August 2022 with an inaugural exhibition curated by FeltZine, Gray Area Gallery will host exhibitions that are open to the public. In tandem with wider Gray Area thematic programs, the first year of Gray Area Gallery programming will center on the complicated tensions and surface areas between identity, representation, expression, oppression, and technology. The Gallery will continue to serve as an anchoring platform for Gray Area to root the multi-faceted, multi-disciplinary, and multi-purpose nature of our creative expression and technology program.

An internet art collective focused on creating digital and in-person experiences that examine digital activism, hip hop culture, race, gender and class, FELT Zine was founded a decade ago to give voice to art that wouldn’t likely be embraced by traditional galleries or museums.

The debut exhibition Gardens of FELT Zine Delights is a simulated world, video series, and interactive experience inspired by classic icons from Hieronymus Bosch’s famed triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights (1490 - 1510). Originally conceived as a series of 3D-rendered sculptures and animations to be released as a collection of NFTs, Gardens of FELT Zine Delights has evolved into a fully developed interactive world built using a video game engine.
