Regenerative Frameworks for Worldbuilding Design

This workshop will guide you through practical tools for establishing foundations for worldbuilding. Together, we’ll go through the process of idea generation, idea grounding, and we will provide resources to collaborate with others while looking at regenerative design principles. We’ll explore a world called “regen·era,” a fictional world created by the Design Science Studio, as a case-study and invitation to participate to weave an emergent collective vision for a regenerative future.

This hands on, learn by doing workshop — will give you the opportunity to experience creative interdependence while distilling the principles, artifacts and lenses for your worlds with the founders of the Design Science Studio: an educational incubator for art inspiring a future that works for 100% of life.

Educational / Experiential Goals

By the end of this workshop you will have designed the foundations for your own world through regenerative frameworks.

This workshop aims to give participants resources to establish the foundational elements for building worlds while providing opportunities to model and practice thinking through and designing them. Facilitated with applied regenerative design principles, the exploration of the case study gives all participants an applied example to model their world builds off of.

About Technologies

We will be utilizing Miro, which is extremely user friendly so long as you feel comfortable with a track pad / mouse and have the ability manage your own navigation on a computer with decent wifi.

Definitions

Regenerative Development and Design: The field of design that is systemic and deeply considerate in nature. Based on core principles inspired by nature, regenerative development and design aims to increase the vitality and viability of any system through multi-sector stakeholder engagement. Regenerative design is developmental and considers the nested wholes at every level to aid in lasting systemic change.

Ontological Design: Designing for states of being. Ontological design is a key design principle utilized in worldbuilding and experiential spaces — if harnessed, it provokes imagination, embodiment and deeper presence and experience in concepts harnessed by the world it is imbued by. In short, what we design designs us back.

Futurecasting is the process of making predictions of the future based on past and present data and most commonly by analysis of trends.

Backcasting is a planning method that starts with defining a desirable future and then works backwards to identify policies and programs that will connect that specified future to the present.
