Join us at the Grand Theater for the opening of the latest Gray Area Artist Showcase!

Following the opening of our online virtual gallery last month, we're excited to invite you onsite at the Grand Theater to see the Gray Area Incubator members and Creative Code Immersive artists' newest works.

On August 18, we'll celebrate the in-person Gray Area Artist Showcase opening, which will premiere artworks critically exploring machine learning, glitch, and digital ontology. Works range from a 3D environmental interactive music video, to hyperobject photogrammetry, to teaching a machine to breathe.

For the past few months, the Gray Area Incubator members have collaborated with the historic RML CineChamber to create site specific installations. The showcase will premiere these new A/V works specifically conceived for the RML CineChamber, a 360° panoramic spatial sound cinema environment, originally conceived in the 90’s in San Francisco’s Recombinant Media Labs.

For the first time, Gray Area is presenting the Artist Showcase as a hybrid experience, inviting the audience to interact with the artists' newest works both online in the virtual gallery, and onsite at the Grand Theater. This hybrid presence mirrors the audience's own nuanced experience of inhabiting and defining a digital persona.

To ensure the safety of our community, Gray Area requires all visitors to be fully vaccinated or have received a negative Covid-19 test result within 72 hours of an in-person event. Masks are required at all in-person events. Read more about what to expect during your visit.
